The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has published the Stenographer Grade ‘C’ & ‘D’ Examination 2026 Notification on 24th April 2026. The recruitment drive aims to fill approximately 731 tentative vacancies for Stenographer Grade C (Group B Non-Gazetted) & Grade D (Group C) posts in various ministries/departments/organizations of the Govt. of India. Candidates aged 18-30 years (Grade C) / 18-27 years (Grade D) as on 01.08.2026, with 12th standard pass & stenography skills, are eligible to apply online only at ssc.gov.in from 24 April to 15 May 2026.

SSC Stenographer 2026 Salary
All the provisionally appointed candidates for Stenographer Grade ‘C’ (Group ‘B’, Non-Gazetted) and Stenographer Grade ‘D’ (Group ‘C’) posts will be paid an attractive monthly salary. Along with basic salary, various allowances (including Dearness Allowance and House Rent Allowance), and deductions (such as Provident Fund and Income Tax) will also be provided.

Educational Qualification:
- 12th Standard or equivalent from recognized Board/University. Stenography skill mandatory (tested in Skill Test).
Age Limit:
- SSC Stenographer Grade C: A candidate must lie in the age domain of 18-30 years to be eligible for the SSC Stenographer 2026 Grade C Exam. Candidates born not before 02.08.1996 and not later than 01.08.2008 are eligible to apply
- SSC Stenographer Grade D: A candidate must lie in the age domain of 18-27 years to be eligible for the SSC Stenographer 2026 Grade D Exam. Candidates born not before 02.08.1999 and not later than 01.08.2008are eligible to apply

💳 Selection Process
- Computer Based Test (CBT): 200 marks (objective; General Intelligence & Reasoning 50, GA 50, English 100); qualifying: 30% UR, 25% OBC/EWS, 20% others.
- Skill Test in Stenography (Qualifying): Grade C: 100 wpm (English/Hindi); Grade D: 80 wpm (English/Hindi) (10 min dictation; 40% UR/EWS, 35% others pass marks).
- Document Verification (DV) by User Departments.
- Final Merit: Based on CBT marks (category-wise); All India Service Liability.

📝 SSC Stenographer 2026 Exam Pattern
The SSC Stenographer 2026 examination will be conducted in 2 different levels. The first level is the Grade C and D exam, which comprises MCQs and is conducted online. After this exam has been conducted, an exam to test your skill sets in various domains is conducted by the SSC.
The details of the computer-based examination for SSC Stenographer 2026 Grades C and D are mentioned below:

Important Points:
- a) Question paper will be of Objective Type Multiple Choice. Questions will be set in Hindi and English except for Part III.
- b) SSC has introduced sectional timings of 30 minutes for Part 1 and 2, 60 minutes for Part 3.
- c) There will be a negative marking of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer. Candidates are, therefore, advised to keep this in mind while answering the question.
📝 Skill Test in Stenography
Candidates who obtain the qualifying marks in the Examination as may be prescribed by the Commission will be called for the Skill Test. The commission may also prescribe qualifying marks in each part of the Examination. The Skill Test will be of a qualifying nature, and the Commission will fix the qualifying standards in the Skill Test for different categories of candidates.
The candidates will have to appear for the Skill Test in Stenography. The candidates will be given one dictation for 10 minutes in English/ Hindi at the speed of 100 words per minute (w.p.m) for the post of Stenographer Grade ‘C’ and 80 w.p.m. for the post of Stenographer Grade ‘D’. The matter will have to be transcribed on a computer. The transcription time is as follows:
